Video Production Process

From videography to video editing, every video production goes though these 5 stages:

Development Stage

Wether it’s a big budget production or a 30 second vid for use on YouTube, every IMX project begin here... the development stage. This is the stage where ideas come together. We work closely with our clients to brainstorm and conceptualize the perfect scenario for the video. We will then shape all the ideas, themes, storylines, etc... into a workable script. The script is sometimes coupled with illustrations (storyboards) and presented to the client for approval. If changes are to be made, it’s back to the drawing board until the client approves and gives us the green light!

Pre-Production

portfoliobutton2In pre-production, we breakdown the script or scenario and identify all the elements required to produced the video (locations, props, cast members, costumes, special effects, etc...) We identify which crew members we need (camera operators, sound recorders, gaffers, makeup artists, choreographers, etc...) and hire if necessary. We will use only the crew members needed for the project, no more, no less. Once all the elements have come together, we prepare a shooting schedule and move on to the next stage! Production!

Production

This is the videography stage. In this stage, all the raw elements of the project are collected. The shoot begins with the set-up, our crewmen will organize the set (lights, cameras, green screen, etc...) and make sure everything is in working order. The IMX Director on set will then do a run-through and blocking with the cast and crew. Once the director yells Action! We begin shooting. Shooting will go on as long as it has to until all the elements are captured. After the tear down, we will review the footage and schedule reshoots if necessary. Depending on the length of the project, production can last anywhere from a small 5 hour session of multiple weeks of shooting. That’s a Wrap! Production stage is over! On to Post!

Post-Production

Post-production is where the video editing takes place and the visual effects are inserted. All the elements captured during production are place together in a timeline. The first step is to create a rough cut. The purpose of this is to select the best shots, place them in order and get a first of the video in its entirety. The next step is creating the fine cut by trimming the shots and making them flow better together. The fine cut is a smoother version of the video. Next step: visual effects! This is where we add the magic to the video! Green screen background, 3D animation, splash intro videos, color corrections, subtitles, credit rolls, etc... The visual layer is finalized. It’s now time for the audio mix, in this step, the sound mixer will include everything needed to complete the audio-track. Voice-overs, music, sound effects. The soundtrack is then added to the visual layer to create the Final Cut. Note: every step of the way in post, we show our progress to the client for approval. We do not stop until you are satisfied!

Distribution

With the video approved and finalized, it’s time to release it to the world! Distribution is where we decide which formats are best suited to launch the video.
